Professor Felix von Bormann, who taught at the University of Hamburg between 1939 and 1942, accompanied the operation in Azaryčy from December 31, 1943 to May 15, 1944 as a consulting physician and army hygienist. In his field report, he describes the events from his own perspective.
According to him, the local population should always be regarded as the source of the typhus epidemic and should therefore be separated from the German troops in order to prevent a further spread.
