At the beginning of February 1944, the 56th Tank Corps was preparing for a mud period in the coming months in order to keep transport and supply routes intact. Due to thawing weather and heavy rain, the following measures would have to be taken: Establishing flood-free supply points, setting up drop zones for air supply, creating makeshift transport means, facilitating an early relocation of hard-to-move supply facilities, spotting parking areas for motor vehicles and preparing for the storing of winter equipment.
