On March 13, 1944, Josef Perau, a Wehrmacht chaplain deployed near Rudabielka, wrote in his diary that none of the troops had time for prayer. Everybody was busy deporting civilians:

„Ein Besuch beim Feldersatzbatallion in Poretschje war gestern völlig umsonst […] Weil die Truppe zur Evakuierung von Zivilisten eingesetzt war.“1 (German original)

“A visit to the field replacement battalion in Parečča yesterday was completely in vain […] because the troops were deployed to evacuate civilians.” (Translation of the German original)
