In its final report, the 9th Army headquarters gives a detailed account of the Azaryčy deportations as a blueprint for further similar operations. The deportation of civilians began by 4 a.m. on March 12, 1944. The number of deported civilians soon exceeded the Wehrmacht’s own estimates and the quotas assigned to individual units.
