On March 9, 1944, the quartermaster of the 56th Tank Corps records the decisions regarding the deportations near Azaryčy announced during the Head Quartermasters’ meeting in his war diary. According to him, those who were to be deported were primarily the sick, disabled, elderly, women with more than two children under the age of 10 as well as anybody unfit for work. He estimated the number of civilians affected by this measure at 20.000.
