After the liberation by the Red Army, evidence was collected in Azaryčy which was used for the Nuremberg trials. One perpetrator, General Richert, was convicted and executed in 1946, while the main culprits remained unmolested. In commemoration of the events, a first memorial was erected in 1965, when Belarus was part of the USSR, but it was only after Belarus gained independence that the victims were publicly recognized. In 1994, a new memorial was installed and publicly disclosed, complemented by a museum and a chapel.
